What Does it Mean?

Medicaid is a public aid program that covers medical expenses for eligible children, adults over 65, or disabled persons.

Things You Should Know

In Illinois, Medicaid is managed by the Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS). Only those with a certain income can qualify – more information here.

  • If you are the custodial parent of a child receiving Medicaid, you are automatically enrolled in the IV-D program (child support enforcement services)
  • If you are involved in a child support case with a child covered by Medicaid, the paying parent may be ordered to make cash medical support payments
