Contempt of Court

What Does it Mean?

Being in contempt of court refers to when a person has done something to disobey the court. 

Things You Should Know

A person can be found in contempt of court for failing to follow the directions of a court order, or for behaving inappropriately in court. It may also be the result of child support enforcement.

If you are in contempt or court, you may receive a penalty from the court. Depending on the situation, this could range from a small fine to jail time.
