Dissolution of Marriage (Divorce)

A dissolution of marriage is the process through which two legally married persons become divorced.


In order to become divorced in Illinois, both spouses must either be legally separated for a period of at least six (6) months, or otherwise prove that they have been living separately from each other for a period of at least six (6) months. Both spouses will additional have to demonstrate to the judge that the they have irreconcilable differences that have lead to the breakdown of the marriage.
