What does it Mean?

The IV-D program, otherwise known as child support enforcement services, is a social service program run by the Illinois Department of Family Services (HFS).

Things You Should Know

Depending on thee situation, parents with minor children that receive Medicaid or TANF can be automatically enrolled in the IV-D program. This means that HFS can start a child support case on a parent's behalf, regardless of that parent's wishes.

Additionally, parents receiving Medicaid or TANF may not receive the full amount of child support payments through the IV-D program. This is because the state has the right to collect a portion of child support payments to reimburse the cost of providing Medicaid or TANF.
