Maintenance (Alimony)

What Does it Mean?

Alimony (formally called maintenance) is a payment made to support an ex while or after you have divorced or separated.

Things You Should Know

A person can be ordered to pay alimony either through a settlement agreement or a child support order.  

The amount an ex is ordered to pay in alimony can potentially be changed (modified).

Alimony will become past-due if a person fails to make an on-time payment.
