Modifying Parenting Time

Please note that the legal information presented on this page is written for those living in the state of Illinois.

What Does it Mean?

Parenting time (visitation rights) can be modified to increase or decrease the amount of parenting time a caregiver has with a child(s).

Things You Should Know

A judge may change a visitation schedule if either parent's ability to care for the child has changed since the original schedule (parenting plan) was made.

Others reasons to modify parenting time include:

  • your parenting time was restricted, or you would like to restrict the other caregiver's parenting time
  • you were denied parenting time in the original parenting plan; or
  • you or the child's other parent are planning to relocate from their current residence
