Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

Supplemnetal Security Income (SSI) is a need-based program offered by the federal government that provides monthly cash benefits to the following low-income individuals:  


  • those aged 65 or older 

  • those with certain documented physical or mental disabilities 

  • those who are blind; and

  • in some cases, minor children that are disabled or blind


You can visit the Social Security Administration's website here to see if you are eligible to receive SSI.  It is important to note that SSI disability payments CANNOT be garnished or withheld for the purposes of making child support payments.
