The Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) can start a child support case against the other parent. They will also handle all of the necessary paperwork throughout the case, free of charge. To receive these services, you will have to apply for their child support enforcement services (or the IV-D program). If you are currently receiving Medicaid or Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), acceptance into the program is guaranteed.
